Beacon Northampton - JACKPOT!

Local bingo fan, Yvonne Verlander, returned to Beacon Bingo Northampton today to collect her National Bingo Game Jackpot win.

Alastair Stewart from the National Bingo Game made the special trip to Northampton to meet the lucky winner and present her cheque.

Yvonne a former legal secretary, aged 59, was persuaded by a friend to go for a game of bingo on a quiet Wednesday lunchtime in March when she scooped a quarter of a million pound National Bingo Game Jackpot prize, in addition to the National prize.

Yvonne's mammoth win was cause for personal celebration after tragically losing her mother Margaret and twin sister Christine in quick succession. Sadly neither had life insurance and Yvonne was unable to pay for headstones.

Mrs Verlander said: "I'm going to sort my mum and sister out now for sure. I might go on holiday as well, I haven't been away fro a long time. I've got options now."

It took half an hour to confirm Yvonne's win and afterwards she celebrated by playing another game of bingo.

On winning the jackpot Yvonne said: "I said to my friend, don't be silly, but then I went back inside the club and found it was true. Everyone was kissing and cuddling me."

Martin Riley, deputy manager at Beacon Bingo, Northampton was working when Yvonne called house on her win. He said: "I was just expecting a quiet lunchtime bingo session. You just don't expect this on a Wednesday afternoon! We're all so happy for Yvonne, she's a much loved regular player and we'll be putting on a party to help celebrate her win!"

The National Bingo Game's Alastair Stewart said: "It was wonderful to meet Yvonne today and present her winnings in person. On behalf of everyone at the National Bingo Game, congratulations again Yvonne. You're a worthy winner and we hope you enjoy your prize."

The Club and its staff will be hosting a winner's party for Yvonne and her family and friends on Saturday 16th April.
